If you’re struggling with identifying a niche, or working out what to write about, whether it’s for your -
next blog post,
eBook you are working on,
video, etc …
1. Go to Amazon.com and type in keywords that are related to your niche.
For example, if your site or eBook was about touring bicycles, type in touring bicycles, or touring bikes, into the search field.
2. Locate the top books in the search results, and click on one of them.
This will open up the page that shows you what it’s about, how much it costs, etc.
3. Look inside the cover.
A cool thing that Amazon provides is the first few and the last few pages of most of their books.
Also, when you “look inside”, they show the Table Of Contents
The Table of Contents (TOC)
The table of contents is a summary of the niche research that the author, and the book publisher will have performed.
The author has in effect undertaken niche research to define the topic of the book, and has identified many of the important concepts relating to this niche, ie the niche targetted by this book.
You can use the results of this research for various purposes, as the book is based on what the author has decided are exactly the kinds of things that motivated people are talking about within the niche.
Also, don’t just look at one book in this manner. You can glean several aspects of the niche from looking at a number of the top books in that niche.
Amazon is a great source for this information; there are others, but Amazon publishes a large amount of info for each book. Another good thing is that much of this info is provided by readers, ie motivated members of the niche market, in the form of reviews, wish lists, etc. .
This information is a rich source of niche information for you to mine, providing a lot of good starting points and ideas for content that you can create to attract and engage your motivated niche market.
There are other sources and other posts on this site address several of those excellent info resources for you. Be careful here, do not break copyright! Be resourceful and original, and use this info as a starting point.
Do not blindly copy the table of contents entries verbatim, for a start they are way too general! They should, however, give you ideas for niche keyword phrases, niche themes and topics, ideas that you can use to research more detailed info about your niche.
So, this is one of the resources that we use, and recommend that you do to.
